Inspired by the work of ‘Help Bristol’s Homeless ‘charity, container manufacturer, Newspace of Lydney in Gloucestershire, created a specially designed Sleepover Pod to help ease the City’s rough sleeping issue.
The unit has been sited at Bristol’s Malago Road which is an area of ground currently unused, although earmarked for development. The Newspace pod joins many other containers that have been converted to accommodation at the site with the help of volunteers and a number of corporate sponsors.
Traders that volunteer their time also train the accommodation users to skill them up for future projects. A second unit has now been manufactured and a Kinedo Eden shower from Saniflo was used in the bathroom thanks to its ease and simplicity of installation. With no requirement for tiles, grout nor silicone the Eden can be installed in just a few hours and - once connected to a water source - is ready for use.
Positioned as a modular housing solution the sleepover pod arrives on site ready-built after fabrication in the Lydney factory. The concepts now being pitched to local authorities as a cheaper, quicker short-term solution for homelessness issues. The beautifully designed Newspace sleepover pod contains two bedrooms, a small communal living area and kitchen, along with a bathroom and the integrated Kinedo cubicle.
